I often stop for a pasty.

Platform 9, King's Cross

Below street level, several underground train lines link King's Cross and nearby St. Pancras to the London Underground or Tube.

My journeys began on the Northern Line on which my grandad worked when it extended to his home neighbourhood of East Finchley.

The fictional story of Harry Potter claims platform 9 3/4. It's a favourite photo stop and shop for visitors from all over the world.

King's Cross Railway Station (also written without the apostrophe) is in the London Borough of Camden. The station was completed in 1852. The name comes from a monument to King George IV. King's Cross is also the name of the nearby neighbourhood and close to St Pancras International Railway Station where you can board the Eurostar to Europe.

The building was modernised in the early 2000s.

In 2024, there were 11 platforms for overground trains.

Combined with St Pancras, there are more underground lines here than anywhere else in London. Here's a list from 2024:
Circle
Hammersmith & City
Metropolitan
Northern
Piccadilly
Victoria

Notes

Some information comes from Wikipedia

The photos are mine and were taken in 2024.

Some of us got pizza, which is not like the hand-tossed varieties we are used to in the US.

The desserts on the main level were tasty and pricey.

A couple really enjoyed the Cheese bar on the ground floor.

Nearby, in Neal's Yard, we enjoyed doughnuts.

Canary Wharf London England

Canary Wharf in the Borough of Tower Hamlets is an area of East London, near the Isle of Dogs, that is part of London’s central business district.

It is known for its skyscrapers, such as One Canada Square, which is the third-tallest building in the UK. It is also a major financial centre, home to many banks and corporations.

Canary Wharf was formerly a dockland, where ships from the Canary Islands and other places would unload their cargo.

See the post on the Museum of London - Docklands

Canary Wharf was redeveloped in the 1980s and 1990s into a modern urban area, with shops, restaurants, parks, and gardens. One of the attractions in Canary Wharf is the Crossrail Roof Gardens, which is a public park on top of a railway station, with plants from different climates and regions.

Mudchute Park and Farm

Mudchute Park and Farm is a welcome restful and educational greenspace in the Isle of Dogs, Tower Hamlets, London. I took these photos in the afternoon of 10 May 2023 as I was exploring the Isle of Dogs.

As you can see in the photo above, you aren't far from the city; however, when wandering about the park, it is easy to feel like you are in the countryside.

There is a nice variety of farm animals.

Signs illustrate the trails, what you can see in the meadow, and offer information from World War II when the residents of the Isle of Dogs suffered greatly from German bombs and rockets.

Museum of London-Docklands

The Museum of London Docklands is housed in No.1 Warehouse of the West India Docks on the Isle of Dogs. The Warehouse exhibit contains objects, storyboards, and videos to illustrate the activities of the dockworkers at the Port of London. These workers, known as dockers, unloaded the ships and stored goods like sugar, rum, and tobacco in the warehouse.

Barrels and large scales are examples of the objects.

The West India Docks were the largest group of docks in the world in the early 1800s.

Recreated scenes  illustrate aspects of life in the docklands with objects like tools, lanterns, ropes, and furniture.

London's docks were bombed during World War II. Small steel Consul shelters were provided for those who needed to work on the docks.

The museum includes educational information on the slave trade. Some of the goods stored in the warehouse were came from the Caribbean where African slaves worked the plantations. Those who traded in goods such as sugar became rich in part because of slave labour.

Slavery was abolished in the British Empire in 1833. The African slavery system lasted about 300 years but the effects of the slavery system continue.
