Bury Transport Museum England

 

The Bury Transport Museum is packed with historic vehicles as advertised. The collection is housed in the building pictured above--the restored Castlecroft Goods Warehouse dated 1848. I recommend a visit if you are in the area. The museum is across the street from the East Lancashire Railway--the Bury Bolton Street Station.

Mayflower Site Plymouth England, UK

The British and American flags mark the dock where the Mayflower left England for American in 1620. The dock is in the city of Plymouth, which is in the historic county of Devon, England.

It was 16 September 1620 when 102 passengers and crew boarded the three-masted ship, which was about 100 feet long. 
 

The journey had begun in the summer in London at Rotherhithe on the Thames but there were complications along the way with the second ship, the Speedwell.

It was 19 November 1620 when they saw what is now Cape Cod. Eventually, they landed at Plimoth in Massachusetts USA 21 December 1620.

Near the dock, you can stock up on Mayflower gifts.

Visit Liverpool England, UK

The photo above is a scene from the Royal Albert Dock where there are shops and museums.

 This classic Anglican Cathedral is open to the public

Liverpool museum contains some great finds- worth a visit.

There are plenty of shopping opportunities in downtown Liverpool.

The Liverpool skyline varies as you cruise along the Mersey River-- Recommended Activity

The Catholic Cathedral is a large and welcoming sacred space.

St Luke's Bombed Out Church was severely damaged in the 6 May 1941 Blitz. After work on the site, it is now a venue for community events.

The Tate Liverpool has a great collection of artworks.

The Liverpool World Museum houses many classic treasures.

The Maritime Museum at the Royal Albert Dock includes a Black Lives Matter floor as well as maritime exhibits including the Lusitania and the Titanic.

The Lime Street Liverpool Station is busy and centrally located. In 2021, I arrived from London. My next stop was Manchester.

Visiting Befordshire, England, UK

Ireland (see above) is a hamlet in Bedfordshire.

The first Roundabout in the UK was built around 1909 and found in the first Garden City of Letchworth.

The Abbey Church of St Leonard of Old Warden in Bedfordshire. The church dates to the 1100s. The current building is mostly from the 1200s with additions between the 14th and 16th centuries.

The Ongley Mausoleum in the churchyard.

I had lunch with cousins at the John O'Gaunt Inn in the small village of Sutton in Bedfordshire. The Inn was created from thatched cottages that date to the 1700s.

Tate Modern Art Gallery London, England, UK

 

The Tate Modern Art Gallery in London houses international modern and contemporary art. The building was rebuilt from the structure of the former Bankside Power Station. It opened in 2000 and was expanded in 2009.

As you enter, you are in Turbine Hall --site of the former power station turbines. In 2021, satellite-like objects float above visitors.

The works on display at the Tate date from 1500.

In 2021, there was a special exhibition titled the Making of Rodin.

Part of the "tins" artwork by Ana Lupas. The tins contain her original wheat wreaths, which were created by locals in Transylvania, Romania.
