Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge Colorado

Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge is located in south-central Colorado near the town of Alamosa.

The refuge is near the bottom of the San Luis Valley situated within three mountain ranges: Sangre de Cristo, San Juan, and Sawatch.

It's a place for local wildlife and migratory birds.

Photos are mine and are from August 2021

I used my Canon D70 and Sigma 150-600 lens.

White Bear Lake Minnesota

White Bear Lake is a pleasant area on the East side of St Paul. I stopped on my way to Voyageurs National Park.

There's a nice beach area.

There's an attractive natural area as well.

Overall, my brief visit to White Bear Lake was enjoyable. If you find yourself stopping here, I hope you enjoy the lakeside trails.

Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge NJ

The picture above is a video collection of favorite pictures and a video clip,
which are mostly from 2015 and others from 2017. The video is on YouTube.

I began visiting this area as a student when the refuge was called Brigantine. The photos and video are mostly from 2015 but a couple were from 2017.

The refuge is well worth visiting. You can learn more from their website at https://www.fws.gov/refuge/edwin_b_forsythe/

The Osprey grabs attention early on.

I will add a few more photos. To see a larger collection, watch the video above, which is also on my YouTube channel.

Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge Virginia

We visited the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge on Monday, 5th October 2020. We paid the $5 entrance fee and soon stopped to view an Osprey on the westside of the entrance road.

Next, we parked by the closed visitor centre and followed an short eastward trail to the beach.

We then walked south of the centre along available trails, which were not fully open to the public. Here's a sample of what we saw.

I took a couple of videos available from my YouTube channel.

St James Park London England

Pelicans St James Park 2016 / Geoff Sutton
St James Park is one of the eight Royal Parks in London. It's a great place for a walk or picnic. And for visitors, it is close to such landmarks as Buckingham Palace and Whitehall.

By the way, pelicans have been in the park for nearly 400 years, when the Russian Ambassador gave
pelicans as a gift to King Charles II.

The flowers are beautiful in the Spring.

You'll find a variety of waterfowl and some funny antics by furry residents.

I just sat back and enjoyed watching this squirrel.

Smithsonian's National Zoo

Panda National Zoo / Geoff W. Sutton 2017
The Smithsonian's National Zoo is famous for its Pandas. The zoo is worth a day's visit to enjoy a walk around a beautiful wooded park. People of all ages will find something of interest.

Fees- there is no charge to enter the zoo. There is a fee for some attractions

Food service- there are several places to purchase food and drink. It is expensive compared to nearby restaurants. You can bring in food and drink.

Photography is permitted but the lighting and glass enclosures make some shots difficult.

Parking- limited but available at the park for a fee

Metro- we got off at the Woodley Park metro stop and walked the short distance to the zoo.

Website- you will find helpful information on the web nationalzoo.si.edu

Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History

The Natural History museum is one of the best in the Smithsonian group in DC.

We enter into the round court where we are greeted by a large African Elephant, which has been present for years.

We are impressed by the Ocean gallery where there are many exhibits from ancient fossils to recent discoveries. Fish and other sea inhabitants range from the microscopic to the massive whales.

The mammal hall houses a collection that has been present for years.

The human origins hall provides an interesting overview of human evolution and interactive "cave video" presentations.

One special exhibit featured wildlife photography.

Other galleries contain butterflies and other insects, birds, and a few dinosaurs (the dinosaur and fossil hall will re-open in 2019).

Some displays are hard to view because of the low light or glare from the placement of lights and reflections off the enclosed exhibits.

The museum stores have reasonable prices.

Food and drinks are available in food services. There are several restaurants a little north of the museum.

Food and drink were not permitted in the museum galleries (except for water) when we visited.

Check the website for current hours and other information like changing exhibits.
