Historic St Charles Missouri

St Charles Missouri was Missouri's first State Capitol between 1801 and 1826.

We stopped by for the annual Christmas market and parade. Parking at the historic Lewis and Clark Boathouse, pictured below, soon filled up.

Further along by the river is the old railroad station.

The Missouri River runs parallel to Main Street where locals and visitors gathered to watch the parade event between shopping and eating.

The sign to the left marks the old trail to Fort Osage, established August 25, 1808. General Clark and his men were guided by Nathan Boone, son of Daniel Boone as they headed west.

We saw a variety of Christmas gifts and lots of food-- a sample.

You can hear these women sing in the video below.

The Mistletoe Misses

The English Shop got my attention--but I think they should call it British.

At the end of the parade, Santa appeared.

There's a touch of international flavour.

Here's a video of the Christmas parade we watched 4 December 2022.

One of their biggest festivals is Heritage Days -- a re-enactment of Lewis & Clark's 1804 camp.

St Charles is less than a half-hour west of St Louis where we visited other sites during our Christmas getaway.

Rail Runner Express New Mexico

 The Rail Runner Express is a fairly new rail service linking Albuquerque and other stations to Santa Fe, New Mexico.

We had attended the 50th International Balloon Fiesta so, to find a hotel room, we stayed north of the field at Bernalillo and boarded the express at the Downtown Bernalillo station below.

It's a comfortable ride. On the way up we shared table seating with friendly visitors planning like us to spend a day wandering around Santa Fe.

The Santa Fe Depot station is the end of the line. We headed for downtown.

Close to the station is the Santa Fe Railyard where you might see a performance.

Royal Yacht Britannia 

We visited the Royal Yacht Britannia in August 2022. Britannia launched 16 April 1953.

Our audio tour flows from one deck to another.

Our group wanted to have tea and scones on board so this is what the tea room looks like.

We were on a cruise around the UK. Our ship anchored near South Queensferry--we arrived via water shuttle. Then we shared a taxi to Britannia where I had booked an early entry.

There is a fee to enter Britannia. It's a beautiful yacht- glad I went.

The women enjoyed the tea and scones. I didn't think it was worth the price. The view was nice but not outstanding.

There is a gift shop.

There are toilets on board.

To save time, we shared a taxi to Edinburgh Castle, which took us the rest of the day until closing time.

Little Venice London England

Little Venice is a canal in west-central London close to Paddington station and in the City of Westminster.

Little Venice was built between 1810 and 1870.

There are plenty of places to eat along the canal.

 

Little Venice is a district around the Paddington Arm of the Grand Union Canal and the Regent's Canal by Paddington Basin.

Most of the white stucco buildings in the district are from the Regency period.

Royal connection

Nearby at St Mary's Paddington, Princes William Harry, George, and Louis were born as well as Princess Charlotte.
