Romagne 14-18 WWI Museum Romagne-sous-Montfaucon France

An informal but extensive collection of military artefacts from World War I can be found in this museum-gift shop-restaurant in Romagne.

The building itself does not appear like a modern museum but it's worth a visit to step inside.
And it's not a bad place for lunch.

The village is small and worth a walkabout

At the opposite end of the village from the church is a street named for General Pershing, which leads to the American Cemetery.

Hill of Vauquois France

Before World War I, Vauquois was an actractive village on a hill near the Argonne forest. The craters reveal the effects of many explosions that erased a village and left craters as a remembrance of war one hundred years ago.

Shells are still visible on the battlefield.

31 December 2018

British Memorial Soissons France

The memorial commemorates about 4,000 British Commonwealth men who died during the Battles of the Aisne and the Marne and who do not have a known grave.

On the day I visited, 23 October 2018, two British families found the names of relatives, which all nearby stopped to show respect.
