Stephenson Railway Museum North Shields UK

The Stephenson Railway Museum, located in North Shields, celebrates the legacy of George and Robert Stephenson, who spent 20 years in North Tyneside developing pioneering railway ideas. The museum features a range of exhibits, including George Stephenson's "Killingworth Billy," the third-oldest surviving steam locomotive, and interactive displays exploring the development of railways and their impact. Visitors can also take heritage train rides on a 2-mile industrial railway, following the route of old coal trains.

The museum focuses on the lives and achievements of the Stephenson family, who are considered the "fathers of the railways".

Visitors can see a variety of locomotives, including "Billy," a forerunner of the world-famous "Rocket" pictured above.

On select days, the railway offers heritage train rides, providing a unique experience for visitors. There is a nominal fee.

The museum and railway are operated and maintained by dedicated local volunteers.
